About the Project

Freightos had built an end-to-end digital freight platform that digitized freight rates, enabled instant quoting and e-booking, and provided enterprise procurement workflows and market data products. Its public marketplace allowed importers/exporters to compare air, ocean and trucking options and to book with vetted providers; WebCargo (and related products) powered forwarder/carrier rate distribution, e-booking and airline partnerships. Over time Freightos expanded by acquiring complementary technology (airline and procurement tooling) and by launching data/index products and enterprise procurement modules to serve both SMBs and large shippers.

Challenges in Development

Rate complexity & freshness

Keeping millions of route-level rates up to date across carriers and forwarders required robust rate ingestion, validation and reconciliation to prevent stale or incorrect quotes.

Liquidity & partner onboarding

Ensuring sufficient provider coverage and onboarding carriers/forwarders for instant booking required developer-friendly connectors and commercial onboarding playbooks.

Regulatory, settlement & payments complexity

Handling cross-border payments, settlement terms and compliance for multiple currencies and jurisdictions required robust payment rails and KYC/AML plumbing.

Solutions: Our software agency provided

We normalized rate feeds and built a lineage-aware ingestion pipeline so Freightos served accurate, auditable quotes even with many upstream formats. We rewired the booking engine to be event-driven and idempotent, which dramatically reduced reconciliation exceptions and failed bookings. We shipped a connector hub and onboarding tooling that shortened partner integration time and increased the number of instantly bookable lanes. Finally, we added payments and settlement tooling with staged KYC and reconciliation dashboards so finance teams reconciled faster and disputes were resolved with less manual work.

Key Features of the Application

1. Online marketplace & instant quotes

The Freightos marketplace provided instant, comparable quotes for air, ocean and trucking lanes so shippers could evaluate price vs transit time and book online.

2. WebCargo rate & distribution

WebCargo offered rate-management, e-booking and distribution tools for forwarders and carriers to publish live rates and accept online bookings.

3. Procurement & RFQ automation (Freightos Procure)

Freightos Procure automated RFQs, tendering and supplier selection so procurement teams ran sourcing processes and tracked supplier performance.

4. Freight market data & indices

Freightos published lane-level data and indexes (air/ocean indices and FBX data) that customers used to benchmark and hedge freight costs.

5. Payments & shipment management

The platform integrated booking, milestones/tracking and payments so shippers booked and paid with clearer settlement and visibility.

Technologies We Use in This Project

The solution improved user engagement, and a pilot adoption rate exceeding expectations.

Results & Business Impact — Commercial & Operational Outcomes

Freightos scaled its marketplace and B2B SaaS footprint, expanded via strategic acquisitions and improved transaction volume and revenue as the platform broadened product coverage and enterprise offerings. The company completed acquisitions (air/airline and procurement assets) and continued to develop data/index services to support benchmarking and hedging, while reporting sequential revenue growth and improved margins in recent quarters. Operationally, rate normalization and booking hardening reduced quote-to-booking errors and reconciliation overhead for partners. Overall, these improvements helped Freightos increase platform adoption among forwarders, carriers and shippers and grow annualized booking volume.
